Kampot International

In celebration of the upcoming Khmer New Year (KNY) festival, the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has planned the official opening of the Kampot International Tourism Port on April 3.

Prime Minister Hun Manet will officially open the cutting-edge new port. Eng Vengsun, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) and Chairman of the Committee for the Official Inauguration Ceremony, confirmed that the event will take place on April 3, with Prime Minister Hun Manet leading the proceedings.

Vengsun urged all committee and sub-committee members to complete their tasks with dedication, ensuring that the Kampot International Tourism Port inauguration ceremony is executed seamlessly, successfully, and in line with all set objectives.

The Kampot International Tourist Port, spanning 4.25 hectares, is located in Chum Kriel village, Chum Kriel commune, Teuk Chhou district, Kampot province. According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), the port was developed through collaboration between the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and MPWT. It is currently managed by AZ Group.

The port was part of the ‘Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth’ project, which aimed to overcome infrastructure and capacity limitations impacting tourism growth in Kampot, Kep, and Koh Kong provinces, as outlined by the ADB.

Construction of the port took nearly five years, from August 2018 to June 2022, with a total investment of $9.27 million. A two-year delay occurred due to the finalization of the Detailed Engineering Design (DED) and the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The port features a pier spanning over four hectares, with facilities including an arrival hall equipped with customs and immigration services, administrative offices, and commercial spaces. It also offers parking and various support infrastructure, such as power, water supply, sanitation, and an on-site wastewater treatment system. Furthermore, the project included an upgrade to the 2.3-kilometre public road linking the port to Kampot town.
